Alternative Tourism School

We started in 2013 with Arad Free Tours, an idea, a passion, a twinge of pride: "You think we can't do it?!". And we did it! We learned from each other, we learned together how to become tour guides in our own city. It was never about money, it was about passion, the desire to do something concrete to promote tourism in Arad, this city with a wonderful heritage, but so little known to foreigners and even locals.

One of the biggest achievements is that we managed to do everything on a voluntary basis and that we gathered around us young people with potential who share a passion for local history and travel.

Arad Free Tours has become the most far-reaching private project aimed to promote tourism in Arad, and this made us responsible and opened our horizon to expand the concept of free tours, through the development of the Timișoara Free Tours project, especially in the context of the designation of the city on the Bega river as the European Cultural Capital.

Working on this not-so-simple equation called Romanian tourism, we realized that the number of tour guides available to implement our projects is very small, and the potential and demand are very high. And without guides, without qualified human resources, it is impossible to support the revolutionizing of tourism in Romania. The foundations of any sustainable and long-lasting project are education and a change in mentality, and the School of Alternative Tourism has become a necessity - or even an obligation for our cause.

Through the Alternative Tourism School, the association offers professional qualification courses in the profession of tourist guide, courses accredited by the relevant ministry.
